Last Friday, while volunteering, a 7th-grade boy saw the pile of blankets and asked if he could take one. He chose one for himself. He then asked if he could have another for his sister and then asked for his dad.
He was pretty talkative, so I complimented him on his choice of blankets and asked him what he wanted to do when he grew up. He answered, “I want to help people who are homeless.” Then he quietly and adamantly said, “My dad needs this blanket.”
This young child’s story reminds me how sweet and concerned a twelve-year-old can be living in poverty. He should be carefree and be just a boy rather than an adult.
Be grateful for your blanket and pillow tonight. I am thankful for the beautiful Servant Hearts quilters and the woman who crochets these beautiful blankets for children who are cold and hungry.
I am grateful for all our donors, volunteers, and the prayers that are sent daily to these children.
